Share files on P2P networks has become very common, but there are organizations such as societies of copyright, which used these networks to collect information.
PeerBlock is a derivative of Peer Guardian, a known IP address filtering. Thanks to a list that is renewed periodically and to a system controller which works at low level, PeerBlock prevents access to your computer to more than seven hundred million addresses.
This filtering block includes IP ranges belonging to Governments, organizations and other entities that have nothing to do with P2P. The blockade of PeerBlock is safe and can be disabled for the HTTP protocol, so navigation is not affected.
However, the effectiveness of PeerBlock can put in discussion, since the list is never entirely accurate or exhaustive and interferes with the networks of some games online. In that case PeerBlock can be disabled, but protection will also vanish.
